The General Missile Bureau test-fired a new-type intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasongpo-18, the core weapon system of the strategic force of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, on July 12 as part of strengthening the right to legitimate self-defence to reliably defend the security of our state and peace of the region from the ravages of nuclear war and thoroughly deter the dangerous military moves of the hostile forces.

The test-firing was staged according to the strategic judgment and important decision of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea in the crucial period when the situation of military security of the Korean peninsula and the region approached the phase of nuclear crisis transcending the cold-war age due to the unprecedentedly escalated military provocations of the United States and its vassal forces hostile to the DPRK.

The United States concocted the “Washington Declaration”, the programme for nuclear confrontation with the DPRK, in April. It schemes to openly plot the use of nuclear weapons against our state through the meeting of the US-south Korea “nuclear consultative group” which would become the parent of the US-Japan-south Korea “tripartite nuclear alliance”.

It also leads the regional situation to the brink of a nuclear war unheard-of in history while sending nuclear-powered submarines and nuclear strategic bombers to the Korean peninsula and its vicinity at any time under the pretext of “visible” increase of the US strategic assets.

What is more serious is that the United States resorting to extremely provocative aerial espionage act even by violating our sovereign airspace is attempting to send its nuclear submarine loaded with strategic nukes to south Korea for the first time in 40 years in a bid to redeploy its nuclear weapons in the Korean peninsula.

The frantic confrontation scheme of the United States and south Korea to bring a new series of nuclear crisis to the Korean peninsula and the northeast Asian region has come closer to the intolerable critical point. The present situation demands the DPRK give fresh spurs to the strengthening of self-defence capability and self-reliant nuclear war deterrent for neutralizing the reckless political and military provocations of the hostile forces with physical strength and impregnably defending itself.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and President of the State Affairs of the DPRK, guided the test-firing of the new-type intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasongpo-18 on the spot.

The test-firing was aimed at reconfirming the technical dependability and operational reliability of the new-type intercontinental ballistic missile weapon system.

It was staged in the way of confirming the technical specifications of each system of the weapon system in the maximum range system with the first stage set as standard ballistic flight mode and the second and third stages as vertical flight mode in consideration of the security of the neighbouring countries and safety of multistage separation during the flight within the territory.

Kim Jong Un mounted the central command observation post and approved the test-firing of the new-type strategic weapon. General Kim Jong Sik issued an order of fire to the Second Red Flag Company of the General Missile Bureau assigned for the test-firing.

A solemn roar burst out heralding to the world the entity of strategic weapon fully charged with our strength and technology and the giant bottle soared into the outer space shooting out red fire.

The test-firing did not exert any negative influence on the security of the neighbouring countries.

The missile flew the distance of 1,001.2 kilometres for 4,491 seconds, ascending to the maximum height of 6,648.4 kilometres, before correctly hitting the targeted waters of the open sea beyond the East Sea of Korea.

All the new records confirmed through the test-firing serve as a manifestation of the capacity, reliability and military utility of the new-type strategic weapon system and an undoubted verification of the dependability of the nuclear strategic force of the DPRK.

The new-type intercontinental ballistic missile Hwasongpo-18 weapon system will be commissioned to the strategic force of the DPRK according to the long-term plan for building the nation’s nuclear forces. It will carry out its mission and duty as the most powerful core means to reliably defend the security of our state, strictly containing and overwhelmingly resisting all sorts of nuclear war threats and provocative aggression moves against the DPRK.

Expressing great satisfaction over the result of the test-firing, Kim Jong Un said this momentous success which powerfully demonstrated the mightiness of the DPRK possessed of strong self-defensive nuclear war deterrent and upper-handed striking ability is another important progress in the development of the strategic force of the DPRK.

Noting that the present unstable situation in which the security of the Korean peninsula is gravely threatened every moment by the hostile forces demands us make more persistent efforts to implement the line of strengthening the nuclear war deterrent advanced at the Eighth Congress of the Party, he manifested once again that there will be no change and hesitation in the strategic line and policy of our Party and the government to continuously accelerate the development of weapon system, more developmental, effective and reliable.

As reality shows, it is the recognized law that more surprising events would continuously be made in the course of our advance for strengthening the state defence capability in whatever intensified military threats and challenges of the hostile forces, Kim Jong Un said and reassured of his will to take more powerful consecutive military offensives until the US imperialists and the south Korean puppet traitors give up their futile hostile policy towards the DPRK, admitting its disgraceful defeat in despair.

He presented strategic tasks facing the defence science field in powerfully promoting the strengthening of the strategic nuclear force of the Republic.

Kim Jong Un sent warm congratulations and thanks to the entire scientists and technicians in the field of defence science who promised the history of eternal victory to the times and future by making a great success in the test of new strategic weapon system on the eve of the significant 70th anniversary of the war victory achieved by the great Korean people by shattering the myth of “mightiness” of the US imperialists.
